I like the album a lot, but it's only a sequel thematically. The sound/music is world's away from that of "Captain Fantastic," a fact that some have criticized, saying that, to be a true sequel, it should've shared the same exuberance and melodic construction of the original. I disagree. Elton and Bernie are far different people than they were in 1975, and their music today reflects that change. I think "Captain and the Kid" should be judged on its own merits, despite what it's purported to be, and on those terms, it's a very, very good album--one of the best he's made since "Captain Fantastic," IMHO.
