This was the first in SS's series of "states" records. Apart from the brass he plays everything... and that's a lot of thing!
It has beautiful melodies. It has the very essence of (what I called a couple of weeks ago) campfire baroque. Some of the songs could be folk music (Q: do you write folk songs? Johnny Cash: I never heard a horse sing them) some are like Steve Reich decided to follow Carl Orff and write (gamelan) music for a school band.
Some of these arrangements make me think of... Eleanor Rigby, that last track on Forever Changes The Zombies' Oddessey And Oracle... and at least that good.
This is a record that both tugs at and massages your heart (strings).
At least hear the bloody thing.
Personally I think you are mad if you don't buy it but what do I know...?
