Its part of a series called something like Classic Albums and consists of interviews then and now(ish) with the band, crew and even a record company guy and studio shots where producers and band sit around and talk through bits of making the disc while playing individual tracks (as in 8 track recording) and talking about what was going on.
This one covers both Anthem Of The Sun and American Beauty and includes Kelly and Mouse and a couple of nice bits with Tom Constanten who like Lesh sounds like a collegs prof.
It also has that clip pf Hugh Hefner talking to Garcia before the Dead play 2 tracks on some Playboy TV show.
There are also clips of the band in SF in the 60s, a 67 short made by someone whose name I didn't catch, movie things of parties and street scenes.
Some of this series are much better than others.
