AW was to my mind not only a great (success as an) artist but possibly the one person to epitomise the mid-20th century in the USA with its obsessions of consumerism and bright shiney celebraties.
Of course, by applying his techniques, derived from his commercial work to crime scenes and other not-so-wholesom images he presented a central dilemna back to the nation.
Just as earlier painters pictured their patrons as more nhandsome/beautiful than they were and set them in idealised landscapes to show their wealth and power, thus Warhol's garishly coloured prints from his polaroids were THE statement for rich New Yorkers to hang in their apartments.
