The Isely Brothers formed back in 1954. Had a few hits along the way: "Twist & Shout" (covered by the Beatles), "This Old Heart of Mine", "It's Your Thing", "For the Love of You", ... Various incarnations of the group have released over 30 albums and they toured with a guitar player named Jimi Hendrix. Sound familiar.
