Apparently there are 2 new releases coming later this month from The Black Crowes. One is the DVD of the video they originally released in (I think) late 1992 called "Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Windowsill." Previously avail only on VHS and Laserdisc, it includes many of their official videos off the 1st two records (Hard To Handle, Jealous Again, Remedy, Thorn In My Pride etc) as well as live concert footage. There is also some interview footage of Chris Robinson in all his stoned and obnoxious glory. (Actually a lot of these segments are quite funny, even if you don't like Chris or his band.)
The other upcoming Crowes release is a 2 CD set of unreleased studio tracks. One set of these tracks were recorded in 1993 and early 1994 for inclusion on the Crowes' 3rd album, which was to be called Tall. The Crowes recorded about 30 tunes in a L.A. studio before the Brothers Robinson decided to shelve the whole project. (Shortly thereafter the band went into another studio to write and record another batch of tunes that ended up being the core of their Amorica album.) The upcoming 2 CD set also includes other unreleased studio tracks that were done in an Atlanta studio after the release of their 4th official album. (I think that studio session in Atlanta would have been in early 1997?) Anyway, most of the unreleased tracks from the 93/94 and 97 sessions have circulated in bootleg form for years --- but this is the first time that they have been officially released.
The CDs and the DVDs are now avail for pre-order at the Rhino website, and will probably hit the big chain brick and morter stores soon.
