Los Lobos - The Town and The City

I was fortunate to get an advance of this CD that's to be released on Sept. 12.

The Town and The City finds LL in fairly somber, contemplative mode with most of the Hidalgo/Perez penned songs influenced by their observations on current U.S. immigration affairs. David Hidalgo's heartfelt and plaintive singing is- as always - the perfect voice for Louie Perez's poetic and discerning lyrics. No slamming uptempo rockers here (ala "Good Morning Aztlan"); the tempos are medium caliente, lightly splashed with swirls of Latin Playboys' playful sonic textures.

This is an extremely GRACEFUL recording from one of my alltime favorite bands- one that I consider the best active band in the land.
Superb, tasteful and fulfilling playing by the entire band are present of course and some of the songs - such as "The Road To Gila Bend" have all the makings of a future LL live classic. Produced by LL, with VERY nice sound mixed by Tchad Blake y Robert Carranza.

A typically wonderful cumbia and "No Puedo Mass" both by Cesar Rosas round out the songs. A VERY strong outing from the "Art Ensemble of East L.A.". Something in September to really look forward to!!

The songs:
The Valley
Hold On
The Road to Gila Bend
Chuco's Cumbia
If You Were Only Here Tonight
Luna
Two Dogs And A Bone
Little Things
The City
Don't Ask Why
No Puedo Mas
Free Up
The Town
Label: Hollywood/Mammoth
