Well, I hope you have heard it but I doubt much international exposure...
The Sleepy Jackson have a new album out. Its rather self-consciously called "Personality: One Was A Spider One Was A Bird".
Now down to a hard core of two following the usual slight success/who writes what? kind of moment, SJ are at heart a vehicle for Luke STeele's incresingly Brian WIlson-like audio-visions.
And all the better for it, I think.
This an unashamed pop record in every way, but sounds more like The Flaming Lips than anything on the chart. I mean pop in its classic sense not whatever sells by the truckload.
It damn well reminds me of a Van Dyke Parks arrangement on some tracks. Its knowing and accepting of music's popular history and uses whatever it needs.
Its... great!
If you go to www.thesleepyjackson.com you can even hear some.
