Charles "Claydes" Smith the guitarist who gave Kool and the Gang their distinctive sound early on has died at age 57. For those of us who have followed this group since the beginning (mid 60's) this is a big loss. I remember going to see them in some real dive theaters in Newark, NJ. They always put on a great show. Sad loss.
