You really need their first self titled album and A Salty Dog.Get the Westside remastered CD of the first album (Procol Harum...Plus). It has some good extra tracks (including A Whiter Shade of Pale that wasn't originally on the album) and it features good solid sound due to Nick Watson's remastering and the little matter of actually using the original mono master tape for the first time in thirty years!
For A Salty Dog the best digital version is on the long OOP MFSL CD. This does turn up at reasonable prices on eBay, but again a very good alternative is the Westside remaster (A Salty Dog...Plus).
All of the Westside remasters of the early Procol Harum CDs are good (stay away from their slightly earlier box set, as the sound on that one stunk, but at least they leaned their lesson) and the OOP MFSL CDs were also all top notch.
