I took my 14 year old son to NYC tonight to see Dweezil's
tribute to Frank. If you could have seen the look on his
face...... priceless !
The band featured Steve Vai on guitar, Terry Bozzio on
drums and vocals, and Napoleon Murphy Brock on sax and
vocals plus a "solid" young 10 pcs band.
Along with "Two" drum solos. Bozio sang "Suicide Chump"
and the always funny "Punkys Whips".
The band focused on Zappas earlier albums up to "Roxy" and
"Overnight Sensation". and "Live in NY".
The songs included {in no particular order} "Peaches in
Regalia", "Inca Roads", "Florentine Pogan, "Black Page"
{Terry Bozzio solo version plus the full band version,
"More Trouble Every Day", "Cheapnis","Let's Make the Water
Turn Black", "Hungry Freaks, Daddy" , "We're Only in It for
the Money", "Yellow Snow", "Montana", Saint Alphonso".
Bozios second solo started with an extended ostinato
pattern that later became a feature for the other drummer
and multi percusionist revolving in a structured tribal
"monster solo".
The audience received the performance so well that at
11:oo the management came out and said they approved a half
hour extension !! {N.Y. Union shenanigans, I guess }
If any of you can catch one of the shows on the final
leg, I think you will have as great a time as we did !!
