I would suggest New Dimensions In Rail Culture by The Super Rail Band of the Buffet Hotel de la gare de Bamako.It was recorded back in82 and is available on Globestyle, (interest declaration) which is run by my old friend Ben Mandelson who moonlights as guitarist for Billy Bragg and who used to have The 3 Mustaphas 3. Its the kind of stretched out Malian music that reminds me of the Dead in its tight/loose "where shall we go next?"-edness.
Its been in my car for 10 days and shows no sign of wanting to get off...
