I think this is a great Neil Young album because of the intense urgency behind it. he's never really recorded an album this quickly before in such a "strike while the irons hot" fashion. I will agree with one post on here that did mention that perhaps he could have taken another week to refine the music/arrangements a bit. but i think the main thing Neil is trying to get across here are his "lyrics" while his music does take a bit of a backseat to some extent. However, there is just something about Neil "angry" guitar playing that is just hard to ignore (even though he really doesn't play any solos). he spits out his words with the same intensity as he plays his electric guitar on this one. "The Restless Consumer" is a killer song that can easily stand along side of "Rockin' In the Free World". "After the Garden" is also a great Neil song. "Over and Out" is a slow burner song that i like as well.I'm sure improvements could have been made to make the album even more commercially appealing but "sales" are not of Neil's concern on this album. it's clearly the "message" that's important here. It's one of the very few "wake up" calls we hear in music these days.
