Errr, Sugar, this post isn't about the Floyd...

... and the title of my post was just a joke.
Jokes are ok aren't they? And please note the question marks and exclamation points to make it clear.
I am happy to tell you my interest in PF wained after Syd Barett was thrown out. Yes, I liked the original band and first was them in 1967 for 5/6 which translates today to 27 1/2p in the back room of an East End pub.
I thought they had gone off by Umma Gumma and I never "got" them again really, actually in some ways I thought they were the sort of band I liked live rather than on record and that was when the show was livlier and the concepts hadn't really been born yet. Floyd were part of the everpresents of hippy London.
After Syd, they became a much more focused band, but my interests were elsewhere. As an aside, I listened to less and less "rock" after 1970 as I thought the bands I had liked in what I will call the psychedelic years were congealing and becoming bambastic and boring... Floyd, Led Zep (who always were bring to me), The Stones were not the same after Brian Jones was sacked, Jefferson Airplane were sour and falling apart and the Dead were slowing to a dead stop.
In the later 70s I worked with Pete Jenner and heard a different perspective on things. Pete had also been responsible for the free concerts in Hyde Park including the Stones show with the half million people.
I completely bypassed prog and thus bands like Genesis or Yes were a complete unknown with nothing to attract me.
It was a long pause till punk put the energy back into rock with old soul, country to fill in. The second half of the 70s was much more fun with punk, reggae, disco (yes Chic were about the best band of all time IMO) and funk.
Errr, this seems to be turning into my memoirs and I don't do that so I won't...
