Tool Vinyl

hey frank25,

i have all Tool on vinyl except for Opiate. i'm sure i'll pick that one up one day (i have the CD). But if you love Tool, Undertow, Aenima & Lateralus are must haves on vinyl.

There are 2 official vinyl versions of Undertow. There is a single clear vinyl US release with a light greyish cover with that weird rib-cage image. i think a song or 2 may be editted to fit the single LP. This version is extremely rare and hard to find. i think with the success of this album, the record company re-released the vinyl version but this time expanding it on 2 discs, deluxe gatefold cover, with (i think) innersleeves. No song edits on this on and the cover artwork is the same as the CD. This version is probably out of print but may be much easier to find. Great sounding pressings on both.

With Aenima, i have to admit that the CD artwork is cooler only becauses of the 3-D effect of the "milk" splashing on the cover, plus there is some weird image of Maynard(?) that looks like he's auto-fellating himself. The vinyl version cover is much less dramatic and interesting as it is 1 dimensional. it is a deluxe gatefold with innersleeves though and the pressing is great as well. This one should still be somewhat easy to find.

Lateralus, as i mentioned before, was only just released earlier this year for the first time on vinyl. it is super-deluxe as the double vinyl are elaborate picture discs. The packaging is also gatefold with innersleeves and the sounds is pretty good for picture discs. However, this one is pricey, but worth it.

Regarding 10,000 Days, i think the CD comes with those "stereo-optic" glasses to view the artwork to also give it a 3D effect. it would be cool if the vinyl release will be the same but i doubt it. anyways, i'm sure we'll have to wait a while for it.

Hope this helps any curiousity you might have on the vinyl.
