“Sugardawg, having seen that you responded to my attempts to make a point not all that dissimilar to a strangely out-of-place poster below, let me simply say this: I'm a bigger piece of human garbage than you'll ever realize. Beyond that, take a look for a second at how many posts of the same point you put up in that thread below. Really, now--does it make any sense? This other guy can't understand how anyone could like a rock record, you seem to not get how maybe someone might not even like this one particular rock rec. Take a deep breath, think about it. Does this line of responses really make sense?â€Makes perfect sense to me. I am really picky about the rock that I listen to. But I believe I’ve found some gold in it. Therefore I rejected his idea that all rock is shallow drunken meaningless riff-raff of use only to teenagers. I do feel strongly about Pink Floyd, and this album…so I didn’t take well to the misrepresentation. Again I don’t care if you like it…but if you’re going to go beyond opinions, please know what you’re talking about.
“Challenging people who don't see a rec exactly as you do doesn't, but hey, it's yr time & their bandwidth. I don't think anyone lost any sleep over it, but if there's one thing Jim isn't, it's ignorant. Truth be told, that's a term I might use for the Bach fan downstream. But he's another case entirely. To him, nothing is worthy unless it falls within the parameters he's set. Honestly, those parameters may be wider musically than the typical rock fan, given his apparent worship of Bach & love of jazz. I do think a majority of rock fans don't bother, and never did, with either. That's just a hunch, I could be wrong, but that's always been my impression. Keep that in mind, then think about how the things I was saying to that guy might well relate to you as well, if phrased slightly differently.â€
Jim may be a very intelligent person. That doesn’t mean he’s free of being ignorant on some topics and issues…and on this one he is…sorry. I am also a fan of certain select Jazz artists myself. I don’t care to reach for parallels between our posts in different threads, on completely different topics. I think Im just a little harder to figure out than you give me credit for.
“I second Jim's suggestion that we leave this behind us at this point. We'll have to agree to disagree on DSOTM & our top ten lists for 1973, which is fine. OK w/you? “
Fine with me. In fact, I read countless posts that don’t mention DSOTM in their favorite albums…and I wasn’t upset. I don’t know everything…but I know a lot about things that are important to me. Pink Floyd is one of them. I suggest (not just to you) that everyone know their historical facts before engaging in one of these subjects. Maybe I overanalyzed some of the comments I read…but that’s just me. I can accept that we have different opinions.
