I've read things (more in the nature of rumor than confirmed fact) that the Dead resented the "commercial" aspects of Monterey, had problems with The Mamas and the Papas being faux hippies, etc., and thus refused to allow any of their set to be used in the filmIf true, this certainly didn't stop them incorporating Philip's "Me and My Uncle" as a standard in their sets for decades.
Anyone more in the "know" about this alleged conflict.
Also, did Papa John ever cut a version prior to the one on his posthumous Phillips 66 album?
