I too have the vinyl version mastered by Bernie Grundman, and I think the Rhino reissue has the edge. There is some synth work, but also lots of real trumpet, sax, mandolin, banjo, and jingle bells. If you give the '88 solo another listen I can't imagine you'll prefer recent stuff like "Gettin In Over My Head." On the '88 solo there is seriousness of purpose and a few arrangements up to the level of Pet Sounds.Also, I see that cover & liner notes of the original LP pressing do include references to Landy that have been omitted from the later Rhino release. The original credits Landy as Executive Producer and offers "heartfelt thanks to... Dr. Eugene Landy for saving my life and inspiring, overseeing, and fighting for me and this entire album."
