Alvin can be a bit repetitive but their version of "good morning little school girl" on this set smokes the dead's one on vault vol. 2, lots of jamming through the whole show. I never considered Garcia to be that effective as a blues guitarist. His vibrato is'nt good enough. The boston Mac Vol. 1 is the best. 2 has even more spencer and another version of rattlesnack shake (albeit a great one). showbiz blues vol 2 (dont have 1) is pretty pricey for what you get. None of the tracks sound as good as boston except the alternates from boston. None are played quite as well except maybe a few from london 1970 also has some early historical pre-mac stuff. Havent heard bbc one. Agree about the stones, I think let it bleed, get yer ya yas out, and sticky fingers have better sound than exile which was not one ot their best sounding recordings. Do you have the Bluesbreakers one with Mick Taylor called "Crusade", nice sound for the time and good guitar work. How about Bloomfield/Koopper fillmore east 1968, pick up band isnt that tight but Bloomfield smokes.
