Welcome to the world of convenience and portability. It is not just the White Stripes that sound like shit. I heard the White Stripes on The Daily Show and they sounded pretty damn good. So good in fact that I was going to go buy the CD but thanks for the heads up.The big corporations could give a #@$% less what it sounds like...as long as it will sell to a general public who's only interest is "Aural Wallpaper" or the "Lifestyle" sound track mentality.
I'll take small label artists who do have control over the production side of the music biz over "squash the dynamic range to make it sound louder" corporate bullshit.
Todays music is in a sad state but not because of the artists, it is because the big corporation music machine only views music as a commodity and as such, treats it as such.
