I don't doubt the sincerity of your question, but you are asking in the wrong place. I've been following this forum for 25 years, and my perception is that the vast majority of AA members believe that nothing meaningful in rock music happened after 1977.
Unlike the 60s and 70s, you don't have to rely on radio and word of mouth to find your way to current music. There are plenty of great resources online if you are truly interested in what others have to say about their musical preferences. Music is so widely accessible nowadays that asking "What do high school and college kids listen to these days?" isn't a question that can be answered prescriptively.
Reading your post, it isn't clear what you are after. Are looking for new music that sounds derivative of fifty or sixty years ago? There's lots of that to be found. Are you seeking contemporary music that has the emotional impact on you that sixty-year old music has? That is a very personal and subjective thing that you can only find by listening prolifically and experimentally with an open mind. Enjoy the journey.
