Sorry, we don't have any pictures from 1985. But 40 years ago, we attended Presidio Middle School. We could then take west-bound buses, to go to Ocean Beach. A common topic, of course, was music. Sheila E. was from Oakland, across the Bay. And we had no idea what her "The Belle Of St. Mark" was supposed to be about.
We're still not sure why Sheila E. was in love with "The Belle Of St. Mark." But it was co-written with Prince and Jesse Johnson (guitarist from The Time). Here in the Bay Area, radio stations only play Sheila E.'s "The Glamorous Life," and, on rare occasion, "A Love Bizarre." You simply do not hear "The Belle Of St. Mark."
