Roger Hodgson, "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)"

At the end of 1982, we were in 6th grade at Presidio Middle School. We loved Supertramp's "It's Raining Agin." Because that was indeed a rainy year, we loved to go to the Presidio (above), and let the rain come to us.

Two years later, we were in 8th grade at PMS. Roger Hogdson had left Supertramp, and made an ambitious solo album, In The Eye Of The Storm. We loved its "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)." My schoolmates thought that it should have been, if not a hit, at least well-liked and respected.

6 years later, during the 1990-91 school year, my new friend Tuyet lived in the adjacent residential college to mine, at UC Santa Cruz. If you go back to her old dorm, the showers have solid doors, where they used to have curtains.

Anyway Tuyet was (a) born in Hanoi, and (b) lived in Los Angeles. Thus, while she wasn't "the enemy," I did have some built-in mistrust about her. When she and I slept together, Hodgson's "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)" made me confront and overcome that subconscious bias against Tuyet. And that was a good thing, because she arguably had more influence and impact on me, as an audiophile. She was the one who prevented me from believing audiophile dogma and nonsense, to begin with.

Speaking of audiophiles, in the past quarter century, I've occasionally brought up "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)." Although many audiophiles are well-versed in Supertramp, very few knew about Hodgson's "Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy)." And that's why we bring it up here, and commemorate ts 40th anniversary.
