25 years ago, we were on Maui, which was where my late paternal grandfather was from. That was about as far from New York City as could be.

On the beach, we were gyrating to the Pet Shop Boys' "New York City Boy," while burying each other in the sand.

Gyrating or not, if you try to go up these stratified layers of soft sand, you won't make it up. So go around, and walk up the gentle slopes of more stale sand. Be that as it may, we remarked that "New York City Boy" harkened back 20 years, to Donna Summer and the Village People.

Nowadays, we can't believe that "New York City Boy" itself is 25 years-old.
