UC Santa Cruz's Porter residential college no longer has its own dining hall. Porter students have to walk down to the dining hall at Rachel Carson (above; back against the wall, I'm on the far right).

And then it happened. 35 years ago, students at the Porter College (sorry, we don't have any photos from then) dining hall got into a squabble. It started to sprinkle, our "first rain" of the season. Porter students dared each other to walk naked in the rain.

Meanwhile, across the campus at my Crown dorm, I was grooving to Fiona's "Look At Me Now." And then my roommate Josh looked out our window, and summoned me over. We looked down, and a loose procession of naked and semi-nude students was meandering through our quad. As they wandered from Porter, they had picked up more and more participants. And this became known as the "First Rain" naked march.

Fiona's "Look At Me Now" stands on its own. But for me, it is part of UCSC's very first and original First Rain.
