My writing partners ACS and Scylla (both c/o 1995) were MCB majors at UC Berkeley. MCB was and still is under the College Of Letters & Science. Almost all majors are under L&S. American Studies, Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, and Native American Studies are also under L&S. Although my friends were science majors, they said that they learned about the Trail Of Tears ethnic cleansing, from electives.
My Cal friends gathered at the Eucalyptus Grove, which was towards the west end of campus. It's hard to make out Damon, but he was on your left, behind three girls. From one of the record stores off campus, Damon bought Testament's Low. Testament were from the East Bay, though not Berkeley. Anyway, this album had a song called "Trail Of Tears." As good as Testament are at thrash, they've never been good at slow songs. Nevertheless, because lead singer Chuck Billy identified as Pomo, it gave Testament's "Trail Of Tears" more credibility.
