One of my old friends has a daughter, who goes to USC. The latter lost a bet, and had to wear UCLA gear (her cousin goes to UCLA) around campus. Funny thing was, while wearing that UCLA sweatshirt, she got hit on, even more than normal!
35 years ago, we were in college. Most did not have a boyfriend or girlfriend. And if you did have a boyfriend or girlfriend, he or she most likely went to a different school.
Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" was about having a tough time, getting a hold of your girlfriend, who was at a different university from you. So you go to her university, and she is hooking up with some guy! She says, "He's just a friend," which makes it even worse!
35 years ago, one of my UC Santa Cruz dormmies, Leonard, had a girlfriend who was at UCLA. Well, apparently, the UCLA girlfriend came up to UCSC, looking for Leonard. Leonard was indeed in his room, but with another girl. Leonard told the UCLA girlfriend, "Oh, she's just a friend."
According to Leonard's roommate, (a) Leonard was indeed hooking up with that UCSC girl, and (b) the UCLA girlfriend angrily asked, "Are you fucking her?!"
While "Just A Friend" is kind of sloppy, the late Biz Markie was actually quite capable of doing a killer beatbox. We saw him, when he made his brief skit, on a Yo Gabba Gabba concert tour. The adults went wild!
