30 years ago, we were sloshing around at San Francisco's Ocean Beach. Angelfish's "Suffocate Me" seemed to fit the turbulent waters.

We then hiked up Sutro, and made our way to Lands End, where my friend Maggie sprained her ankle.

No one told us that Angelfish were an offshoot of Scottish band Goodbye Mr MacKenzie. The band Garbage saw the video for "Suffocate Me," which caused them to reach out and sign singer Shirley Manson.
