35 years ago, my old friend used to have a last name of Zhang. She had no rap or hip hop talent, so of course, everyone made fun of her, calling it "Zhang-sta rap."
Well, the former Ms. Zhang and I were back home in San Francisco, for holidays 1989. Then, other friends introduced us to MC Lyte's "Cha Cha Cha."
Two years later, I would get to know MC Lyte better, when she had the hit, "Poor Georgie," which sampled Toto's "George Porgy."
Well, the former Ms. Zhang now has a son, who goes to UCLA. And he said he took a music class, which played "Cha Cha Cha," and cited MC Lyte as a pioneer in women's rap.
