I don't know what audiophiles were doing in 1989, but early that year, I got to ride in the air above the San Francisco Bay. By the spring, the golden age of west coast hip hop was underway.
Leading the way was Eazy-E's "We Want Eazy," which crossed over to the mainstream. In the video, he gets arrested, and performs from his Compton jail cell. Then he breaks through to a concert. Because "We Want Eazy" sampled from Bootsy Collins' "Ahh... The Name Is Bootsy, Baby," Bootsy Collins briefly appears towards the end of the video.
