Although after you graduated, my relatives would come down the coast from that side, and hit Lanikai, Bellows, and Sea Life Park. As a small child in the mid-to-late 70's, I'd hear "Waimanalo Blues," a protest song about development taking over the lands.
In the mid-80s at Punahou summer school, we had field trips to Kailua Beach. Either by snorkeling or on bodyboards, the class swam out to Flat Island.
At the time, Joni Mitchell was working on a new album, Dog Eat Dog, so her material really wasn't being played on MTV or FM radio.
