Vast majority of people who immigrate to US are not well educated or not educated at all. Yes there is a talent drain from all over the world to attract the best brains and US has the money to pay for it and it does but it's a relatively small group. The truth is for majority of people from civilized countries of first and second world US has nothing to offer except that elusive perpetual dream.
Yes, to build churches, monasteries, sponsor art, architecture and education all of it costs money. Priests education takes several years and yourself you expect decent compensation for your enlightened services in the school. Take the religion out and 90% of art disappears from the existence. Religion is not hanging in the ether of mysticism for the few. It offers a practical guidance for the regular folk. Most people who have some structured system of beliefs tend to do better in life and it's not because they are scared of death. It's simply a function of human subconsciousness.
