There are plenty of concerts that do well on the age meter. Particularly some of the Chamber Music Society Concerts. The increase of New Music at some of these institutions have broadened age brackets as well. Everyone would love to have Miller Theatre's demographics. As for low cost concerts, take a look at the listings, and do a little leg, or mouse, work to find some of the ticket prices. Schneider is a bit obscure, but how about Free for All at Town Hall or the People's Symphony chamber series?
Like everything in New York, you have to know where to shop.
