The recent thread about the youtube Dutoit performance of Beethoven's 7th symphony led to my disovery of a world I did not know existed. From the Dutoit Beethoven I accidentally landed on the Karajan videos of Beethoven symphonies. I have been looking at youtube for a while, but I had no idea there was so much classical music and opera. Brendel performances of Schubert, Horowitz, Richter, scenes from operas, etc. There was 1935 performance of Act 3 of Die Meistersinger for Nazi audience. I am really enjoying exploring all this stuff. One performance that especially impressed me was the 1966 video of Karajan conducting the Beethoven 5th. It was faster and more exciting and precise than Karajan's 60's, 70's, or 80's studio recordings, or even the Carlos Kleiber recording.
