I generally like reading DH. If nothing else, he's entertaining, and is usually very specific about what he likes and doesn't like. I think classicstoday made an editorial decision that they don't like to run luke-warm reviews, so everything there tends to be either a rave or a thrashing. Either way, it's usually a good read!Like a lot of people, I've noted that DH loves to bash the big names and herald the unheralded, so I've learned that he'll usually under-value recordings by, say, Abbado, Karajan, and Rattle, and over-rate recordings by people you never heard of. And then there's his bizarre anti-Brit bias, which manifests itself in the bashing of Barbirolli, Horenstein, and anybody lauded by the British press. What is that all about?
All in all, though, classicstoday is a good site, and so is Gramophone--or at least, they're the best we've got.
