I remember a similar story of a violinist whose name escapes me. Someone had me to check out this performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with this upstart violinist. I listened to it, and I thought, "Boy it sounds a lot like Heifetz".... Then came the final movement, and there is a technical quirk unique to the Heifetz performance, and there it was.... "It *WAS* Heifetz"....I told him it was in actuality the Heifetz/Reiner performance. After listening to the original recoridng, he sent the CD of the "upstart" back and got a refund. Never heard any news or seen any comments after that.
