I find Levine's 5th mov't much more intense and concentrated to the point in which I don't move. Compare--if you want in the 5th mov't, the other-worldly flute solo material, and then the return of the flute solo material later on with unison strings. Levine "gets it" much more so than Ormandy.I've been re-acquainting myself with Ormandy lately, having gone back into Lp's, but sadly I'm finding him to be a fading star, which is strange because my parents and I thought him a god, while I was growing up in the '70's. Nothing is ever wrong with his performances, they just don't get under my skin anymore. Two minor standouts would be his early Sibelius 7th and perhaps his last Strauss Also Sprach on EMI.
