I have added two further tweaks,a thin layer of clay/shot on the inner side of the baffle, and behind each tweeter's plastic frame!? Both were done at the same time. The sound got a deal quieter still - less hashy. More stable black in spaces between apparent sources, and more quiet between notes. More expression, too. Slightly more depth and hall/wall sound.
Added an RC network across the bass-mid driver to flatten the usual Z-rise with freq. No tonal shift, but it sounds a little 'easier'.
There was only / just a damping resistor wire across the midbass as original, still there. No LP xover.
They are very carefully positioned according to unequal path length theory, using a fibonacci ratio I started out at 1/1.5/2.25, it is now 1/1.6/2.46, which lets them get a bit more oomph - just on the sides of a spike in the 40hz room mode
