recorded the suites at least twice. The first I'm familiar with, from 1985, would easily fit your description. The second, entitled "The Cello Suites Inspired by Bach" part of a film series, is, despite that frightening title, a remarkably fresh, inspired and interesting take on the suites. They contains much of the "exhuberance" lacking from that other version and are full of life.Funny, I had overlooked the Rostropovich -one of my favorite cellists - but for some reason not high on my list of Bach interpreters. Must dig out those recordings and spend more time with them...
