They are, like all recordings, imperfect products of the technology that existed at the time. Whatever your reaction to Gould's playing, the recordings are adequate (and in the case of the 1982, more than adequate) to convey what Gould was doing. What is the point of trying, with a Yamaha piano, to "reproduce" Gould's touch on the keyboard, when we have professionally engineered studio recordings in decent sound, which Gould was directly involved in producing, of Gould playing on his own piano? I must be missing something...
