Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

However, the first permanent orchestra in the United States to record ...

was -- the New York Symphony under Walter Damrosch. According to Claude Gravely Arnold's The Orchestra on Record 1896-1926 (Greenwood Press 1997), "[w]hile none of the pre-1900 cylinders is known to have survived, one 1903 Columbia disc by the 'Damrosch Orchestra' (composed of New York Symphony players) can still be found."

As my daughter might say, neah, neah, na-boo-boo.

As most of you probably know, the New York Symphony merged with the New York Philharmonic in 1928, and the resulting orchestra was known as the New York Philharmonic Symphony for many years.

Also, Boston sucks.

Thanks for the link to that interesting article.
