Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

I Listened to the Talich Dvorak 9.....

After the first two movements, I thought this one had a lot of promise.... (The Largo approched Szell's definitive reading.) The Third Movement was good, but struck me as "Maazelian"- Too much rhythmic detail.... It drowned out the melodic interplay. Somewhat "muscular", if you will. The final movement, aside from the secondary melody and final fanfare, was merely OK.... My biggest complaint is the 4th-Movement opening melody played with the notes cut short. A common failing in this work, in my humble opinion.

It's a nice historical perspective. For an old mono master transferred to CD, the sonics were disgustingly good.
