Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

That's the one reason I frequented Tower Records, Piccadilly, London

For the Japanese imports (mostly Jazz mini-lps, etc). The Classical section was pretty good too but rather than become even more niche-oriented, they seem to have balked at the rising challenge of the net and jumped the wrong way by trying to compete with supermarkets for the top ten pop charts on price alone. Many had already turned to online and increasingly specialist providers (like APR for Classical piano, for example) as the reliability of the Classical section had begun to deteriorate - price was an issue - and delivery times of ordered items were inconsistent. It didn't help that the sales staff seemed content to guide you to their online store at the earliest opportunity, thereby increasing the chance that you might defect to another online supplier.

Don't live in London now so don't know if they're still trading but maybe individual stores may survive around the world.

It's looking more and more likely that I will need to visit family in Japan as a ruse for a decent hifi/lp/cd splurge in the future.

Big J.
