Interesting. There is no indication whether these recordings are/will be remastered, or if they are just re-issues with prettier packaging -- and higher prices.
I wonder why they are starting with the Rachmaninoff music? Most of these are already available on CD. I personally do not care for Svetlanov's recordings of Rachmaninoff; they are too slow and over-dramatized for my taste. At $40 for a 3-CD set, it's not exactly a bargain either. The 1-CD of Medtner piano music is $21.50 in the new packaging, etc.
As for Myaskovsky, some of Svetlanov's Myaskovsky is very good, some of it not competitive, and for some symphonies Svetlanov is the only recording ever made. It will be interesting to see how they price it, and whether they offer single CDs (as Olympia was doing) or whether it will be offered only as a 16-disc box set. (The box set is currently available from Russia, but it is expensive and S&H makes it even more expensive.)
However, I will be thrilled to see the Myaskovsky Cello Concerto featuring Natalia Gutman w/ Svetlanov conducting. Thus far, it has been available only on LP. This is IMO the best recording ever of this beautiful concerto, surpassing even Rostropovich. Of course, I love the LP, but it will be great to have this performance available on CD. Will it too be priced > $20?
But it will be good to see some of his music more easily available in the West. And, I have heard that his wife was having a difficult time of it financially since his death, so I hope this benefits her.
