It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Early Mozart works for organ, clavichord & harpsichord - harpsichords can sound unpleasant

I'm a novice regarding classical music and the harpsichord, but it has to be my least favorite intrument, even more so than the accordian (NEVER pass up an opportunity for an accordian jab - rule 382g...) and many synthesizers from the mid 80's to present.

I doubt it has anything to do with how well or un-well it's recorded - I have many Aliavox recordings wherein everything is brilliantly recorded and what harpsichord is present sounds probably as good as its' going to get from a "technical" standpoint. My problem with the instrument is the instrument itself. Possibly your wife shares this feeling?

Here's a link from a previous, brief thread. Even with sser2's input, and my revisiting of Landowski's harpsichord of a favorded piece of music (WTC) my previous disdain for the instrument remains, regardless of the "touch".

Fortunately, I can live with that.
