New Music@Menlo Recordings Out!

71.232.93.134

This is the third annual series that has been recorded and released, the first two representing the concerts given at the Menlo Music Festival in Palo Alto in 2003 and 2004. The Festival is organized and run by Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han, both of whom perform in it. The first two years's concerts were released on CDR and while packaging, etc. was minimal, the recorded sound, engineered by Da-Hong Seetoo (engineer for the Emerson Quartet and the outstanding set of Beethoven Opus 18 String Quartets by the Miro Quartet), is superb - the recordings among the best digital I've heard. This years' set, recordings of the 2005 series of concerts which arrived today, is on CD and the packaging has been upgraded substantially. As soon as I dig into them, I'll report out over on Positive-Feedback, where I reviewed the two earlier sets.

This year's releases have done away with the overlapping approach used heretofore, where one could order different 'cuts' of the festival according to ones musical preferences. The 2005 set is released on four discs, with no repetitions. Details are on the Music@Menlo website: www.musicatmenlo.org.
