Today's hip tunes. New music that isn't Classic Rock or Jazz!

Always seemed kind of like a silly gimmick to me

and actually detracted a little from the appeal since there wasn't any translation forthcoming after Ágætis Byrjun became more widely available and they got international recognition. But I guess that was some of their charm too since you could imagine the lyrics having the same depth as the music. And I guess it does help to keep the attention on the music instead of the words, although I was kind of left wondering if maybe they were just embarrassed to use a recognizable language. I'm not quite sure why Lisa Gerrard does it with Dead Can Dance, or Azam Ali with Vas, but it does add a mystery to the music. Thankfully, I think Sigur Ros have dropped the Hopelandish nonsense on the latest one and just sing it in their native tongue :)
