Zap Mama has about 7 releases. The first several are mostly accapella but you may not think so at first listen-that's how good they are! A few tracks have a little added instrumentation or at least a drum but some have vocals through a harmonizer that sounds a little synth-like. So those first few are nice but "Ah Ma Zone" 1998 on their label Luaka-Bop (luaka bop is the name given to the sounds beetles make to communicate with each other) is their best by a lot in every catagory IMO.
Laswell is great and has a ton of recordings under his name, Tabla Beat, Material-the first Material I have is "Memory Serves" from the 80's,Sacred System and Divination and there are probably more. My favs by him are "Lo Def Pressure" on the Quarterflash label and the Wobble/Laswell "Radioaxiom: A Dub Transmission" on Axiom. Lo Def is cool;two 25 minute tracks a la Tabla Beat w/Zakir Hussein, heavy beats, limited Indian female vocals as segues, and both naked and heavily processed tablas. I know you recently got "Hallucination Engine" pretty good one huh? Gotta love the Burroughs vocals and the nice Weather Report/Cobham fusion remakes not to mention Trilok on percussion.
Here is a link to Zap Mama- make sure you get "Ah Ma Zone" -listen to tracks 5-8 first when you get it, then the rest, it's a treat in every way. Also look for the repeat of their Sessions @ West 54th show on PBS. Great live show excerpt-4 tracks. I have a VCD of it somewhere I can copy for you if you end up liking them a lot.ET
