I was in 7th grade, when duran Duran couldn't get any higher. By the time 8th grade came along (84-85), Duran Duran kind of faded. Shortly thereafter, the Taylors teamed up with Robert Palmer and Chic's Tony Thompson. The other members briefly formed Arcadia, but in the fall of 1986, kept the name Duran Duran, and came out with Notorious. I still recall going to the Wherehouse on Judah or Irving, and hemming and hawing between Janet Jackson, Glass Tiger, and Duran Duran. I ended up buying nothing. But anyway, Duran Duran recruited Missing Persons' Warren Cuccurulo, whose talents opened up Duran's sound.
Years later, when the original Duran Duran members came back, they found that they just enjoyed playing together.
Bu I still miss those days in 7th grade, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and letting Duran Duran's nonsensical lyrics make my imagination run wild...
