Unexpected "Noise" on Recording

This is going back a long time for this forum. About 20-25 years I'm thinking. There was a post about a recording where there were "hints" of another recording as an overlay. One audio reviewer (I think that this person was from Stereophile or the Absolute Sound) had read this and verified the finding. It may have been Kal Rubinson as I know he used to post here at one time (apologies, I haven't been a participant on this forum in some time). The remark was "wow you people really listen to their music loud."

The consensus seemed to be that the tapes (maybe safety tapes) that were used for the recording were re-used. Does anyone remember this or am I imagining things in my early-old age.
